Introversion has finally brought the solemn duty of executions to the sandbox in Prison Architect, having only been available in the story campaign thus far. Now wardens can construct their own, should they choose to.
It’s not a mandatory requirement for a prison, and neither does it afford any ‘advantage’. It’s available to unlock through the new Lawyer employee, who can also grant permission for ‘indeterminate sentences’.
That means if you’ve got a particularly nasty prisoner or two causing a ruckus every once in a while, you can now permanently keep them in lockdown, or in solitary confinement. The Lawyer can also get rid of that pesky ‘minimum cell size’ regulation, letting you cramp in even more convicted sardines.
Each Death Row execution is an involved process, and also introduces an appeals process where the prisoner can try to get their sentence changed or even manage to prove their innocence, which means wardens don’t want to be too hasty in scheduling their long walk to the chair.
A new Reception room has also be added which lets you designate an entry and processing point for new prisoners, where they’ll be stripped searched to reduce an influx of contraband. However this takes manpower and creates a bottleneck, so it’s a trade-off.
