Honestly, I don’t think anyone would be surprised to hear that Hello Games is looking closely at VR support for its upcoming space exploration game No Man’s Sky.
Developer Sean Murray admitted as much to Edge Magazine in a recent interview (reported by GamesRadar), though he remained rather coy on the exact details when asked whether the game would be coming to Sony’s Morpheus VR headset.
”I don’t know what I’m allowed to say,” he responded when asked about the prospect. ”It’s something we’re thinking about. Morpheus, Oculus… There’s nothing more cool and sci-fi than VR and a big procedural universe. I think that, for the people who want to just explore, and even for the space combat and things like that, it would be a good fit. Let’s put it that way.”
So yes, in other words it’s almost certainly something that’s going to happen (for at least one of the forty thousand or so VR devices popping up), Murray’s just not officially allowed to confirm it yet. It’s a no-brainer, really, No Man’s Sky’s brand of colourful sightseeing and space combat is such a clear fit for VR tech.
Whenever it actually comes out. We’re still waiting for an official release date for the game, but it should drop sometime in early 2016.
