If I had a dime for every indie puzzle platformer on Steam these days, I could retire and probably solve world hunger while I’m at it. Yet between Hue’s visual style and its unique puzzle-solving mechanics, it looks to stand out when it releases later this month.
The titular character, Hue, lives in a world where everyone sees in grayscale, and your mother, Anne, is a researcher in all matters colorful. As all video game scientists tend to do, your mom goes missing as a result of an accident involving her own research. You, armed with a very special color-manipulating ring, go in search of her.
Puzzles are solved and levels are completely by switching between rainbow hues using that color ring. Objects of various colors will blend into the background of like hues, clearing blocked paths or revealing new elements you’ll need to move forward.
Hue will be out August 23 on PC, Playstation 4, Vita, and Xbox One, at a price of £11.99/$14.99/€14.99.
