Abandon Ship is a single-player game where you take command of a ship and her crew. Players explore a diverse, procedurally generated world, taking on quests and dealing with random events. Frequently, you will end up engaging other ships in combat, the player having to employ their best tactics in order to outmaneuver and outgun the enemy.
The game is being developed by Fireblade Software who explain their project as combining “the Tactical combat of games like FTL with the exploration mechanics of titles such as Sunless Sea, all wrapped up in an “Age of Sail” setting.” alongside these mechanics, the game’s art style is inspired by old Navy oil paintings.
Abandon Ship allows you to customize your captain and crew and they will progress as you play. Should you be outmatched on the battlefield, the destruction of your ship is not the end. Captains can escape in lifeboats to fight another day and as long as the captain lives, the game goes on, well at least until someone kills you.
The game is set to set sail in 2017 and so far it looks like a promising title that could attract a solid player base from lovers of FTL and other similar games.
