Yesterday, CD Projekt Red’s forum moderator, Riven-Twain posted a transcribed copy of a special Q&A with The Witcher 3’s quest designers, Pawel Sasko and Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz. The Q&A session appears to have been quite long with Sasko and Tomaszkiewicz going into a lot of detail regarding the design process for creating quests, talking about which quest was the hardest to create and more. This information pleased many fans on the forum, who were keen to hear what the designers had to say.
If you are a Witcher 3 fan and haven’t checked out the interview yet, it’s well worth a read.
The Battle of Kaer Morhen is a great moment, but could it be made even better with the help of our Witcher 3 Mods page?
When asked which quest they were most proud of, Sasko understandably found it difficult to pinpoint just one. He mentioned many quests that also appear in fans’ ‘top ten’ rankings, including ‘Family Matters’ and ‘Return to Crookback Bog’ for their “unique story and custom features”. He also mentioned the ‘Battle of Kaer Morhen’ quest, particularly because he liked “the feeling of an epic battle with all the supporters fighting arm to arm”.
Interestingly, the ‘Battle of Kaer Morhen’ also stood out as the most challenging quest to create for both designers, especially from a “technical perspective” - as Tomaszkiewicz pointed out.
PS: “…In 11 years of my career as a quest designer, I have never implemented such a technically challenging quest as ‘Battle of Kaer Morhen’. From the early state of paper design we knew that it was going to be a huge and complicated quest – and it turned out to be even worse than we expected”.
Sasko then continued to talk about how he had to ensure “that every player who brought a unique set of characters had a quality experience that would stay with them for a long time”. Considering that players could have between nine and sixteen characters supporting them, who could appear in any order and also had additional scenes, dialogue and their own personalised mechanics - this must have been quite a task!
