The Shadow Moses project, a fan-made remake of the original Metal Gear Solid, looked super-cool. It also looked like something that would die at Konami’s seeming hatred of their own fanbase, so it was no surprise when it was canceled. The real surprise is that it’s back along with the vocal talents of a Metal Gear legend.
The Fan Legacy: Metal Gear Solid VR Museum will use the Unreal version of Shadow Moses to house a museum of fan art and tributes to the series. In a totally unexpected turn, it will feature the voice of the former Solid Snake, David Hayter. In the trailer below you can see not only Shadow Moses but the field from the climax of Snake Eater, indicating that this will go through further entries in the series.
”As an unofficial, non-profit production, the project is a gift, from the fans, but also addressed to the fans; to share our affection for the seminal franchise,” said the update on the project’s Facebook page. The project was originally intended as digital museum, but the scope of the project expanded to full remake once the game started to be widely covered. This sort of VR experience is more feasible for a small fan team to complete, and likely more legally defensible as well.
The project will be available for PC in May. As the name suggests, it will feature VR support.
