Who knew Cleopatra wasn’t just a gambling icon for terrible websites? Look, we can all say we learnt something very important today. Civilization VI recently added Queen Victoria to the game, and now you can play as another playdough-faced babe – Cleopatra. It will be interesting to see whether Cleopatra makes an ally of Julius Caesar in this new instalment - or will history pan out a bit differently? It’s up to you!
Fans of Civilization seem to be well chuffed at the idea of Egypt becoming a more well-rounded civilization. Egypt has now been given an incentive to build wonders through the adjacency bonus of the UI, a first in the series. Some players have been quick to point out that her new terrain bonus may not be as good as it seems. If you get a bonus for building wonders near rivers, most people are expected to constantly restart the game in order to get the terrain that suits them.
Here’s a list of Egypt’s unique abilities:
Unique unit: Maryannu Chariot Archer
The Maryannu Chariot Archer is a hereditary class of nobles riding in two-man light chariots. This style of chariot offered a stable base for archers and more room for ammunition, but had its limitations when it came to terrain. Horses and chariots posed maintenance complications, especially during longer campaigns, but the Maryannu were ultimately one of the more elite units in the pharaoh’s army.
Unique Improvement: Sphinx
The Egyptian sphinx is a mythical creature comprised of a human’s head atop a lion’s body. The sphinx was a common theme for pharaohs obsessed with strength, eternity and wisdom, and ranged in size from small to great – the latter of which is seen in the oldest known monumental sculpture existing today: the “Great Sphinx” of Giza.
