While PC gamers have gotten to see most of the Dead Rising series, they still haven’t seen the original game. Sure, they’ve met protagonist Frank West through the alt-Dead Rising 2 story of Off the Record, but who is Frank West without Willamette, Colorado? (He’s covered wars, you know.)
Well, in honor of the original game’s tenth anniversary–and the upcoming release of Dead Rising 4–the original adventure is coming back, remastered, for PC. Yes, computer player, you can finally see how the outbreak started, and see all the best parts of Dead Rising lore while experiencing the joy of the sandbox world and frustration of intense time limits.
Console players are also getting remastered versions of Dead Rising 2 and Off the Record, though with both those games already available on PC, the concept of “remastering” them there seems a bit redundant. Each game will include all available DLC costumes, though we don’t know if that applies to the existing PC versions of the latter two games.
Dead Rising is great, though I suspect its uniquely insane time management mechanics haven’t aged especially well. Or maybe they’ve made it a unique flavor of classic! In either case, you’ll be able to play it yourself on September 13 when it releases for $19.99.
