The odd turn of events for the week comes courtesy of ZeniMax. 12 years after release, the company is looking to put an end to DoomRL - a fan-made game that predates their acquisition of the Doom IP.
DoomRL was a popular rework of the original Doom release. Created by Kornel Kisielewicz with sprites aided by Spelunky's creator Derek Yu, people are scratching their heads in an attempt to work out why ZeniMax has just not decided to take action.
So... Zenimax have just written to me demanding I take down the DoomRL site... :-/ pic.twitter.com/tXAwdq59Zz

Willing to fight what was bound to be a losing battle, Kisielewicz has instead decided to do what he original said would be a "significant undertaking" by rebranding the game as DRL. Ahearing to the demands of the corporation, all references to Doom have been removed from the game's site. But it's still available for download.
What did we think of ZeniMax's DOOM? Well... it's quite a bit different to DoomRL.
Planning to release the source code as a "thank you" for the success of his newest Kickstarter - who's advertisements on the Doom branded DoomRL site may have contributed the the feud - Kisielewicz said ZeniMax forced his hand, causing him to release the source code early through Github.
Jupiter Hell - a sort of sequel to DoomRL still needs £13,000 to reach its targeting Kickstarter goal. If rougelikes are your thing, it might be worth a look.
