This story’s a lot of fun for me, largely because I get to leave my caps lock key on for extended periods. We previously reported that Bluehole, makers of the MMO TERA, had partnered with PLAYERUNKNOWN, developers of the Battle Royale mode for ARMA 3 and H1Z1, to create a new strategic shooter called BATTLEGROUNDS, and the game has just completed its first play test.
PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS is a standalone game being developed for PC. Matches of up to 64 players will put combatants on an open island, encouraging warfare that is as strategic as it is action-packed. Over 600 players participated in the pre-alpha play test, and the developers are quite pleased with the feedback.
“The enthusiastic response of the players after experiencing the bare bones of the game tells me we are on the right track for strong gameplay set in a realistic open world,” said Brendan Greene of PLAYERUNKNOWN. “Our Bluehole team has made amazing progress and everyone is fired up for the next play test when we’ll have more of the game to show.”
Further testing for PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS will take place every six to eight weeks. PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS is only four months into development, so it will be some time before we see a final release.
