As Master of Orion is about to leave Early Access, the laws of balance demand that another space 4X game enters Early Access. The willing tribute is Stars in Shadow, a turn-based strategy title largely developed by a single Canadian. It’ll hit Steam in September, adding yet another choice for your strategic space exploration needs.
Stars in Shadow will feature seven playable factions across six unique races, and as is standard for the genre, you can either conquer the galaxy by force or unite it by diplomacy. Fleet combat is also turn-based, allowing players to use a wide range of abilities from their starships’ various weapons.

Each faction has a unique set of initial technology, and trading with or conquering other species will open up new types of research. Maps will hold up to 85 star systems, each of which could have as many as 10 planets, giving you a lot of territory to take over as you balance the needs of growth with defending your existing holdings.
Stars in Shadow will launch in Steam Early Access on September 15.
