Ubisoft has released some stills from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed film, showing off Michael Fassbender in action in his dual role as 15th century Spanish assassin Aguilar and his modern day descendant Callum Lynch.
As with Desmond Miles from the video games, Lynch is descended from a long line of Assassins, and like Desmond is probably a prisoner of Abstergo, the front company for the Templars. The organization is led by Alan Rikkin, played by Jeremy Irons.
One still depicts Aguilar in open combat, resplendent in his light armor, wielding a sword. Another shows Callum sitting in a musty jail cell being comforted (or interrogated by a priest). Interestingly, Desmond was never as shabbily treated, even though he too was in mortal danger. However, like Desmond, it seems Callum or someone else has taken to scribbling arcane phrases and symbols on the cell wall; Ubisoft urges people to examine the graffiti, so it must have significance.
Ubisoft showed off a third pic which had been revealed in December, stating ”Finally, we have an image of Fassbender/Aguilar with costar Ariane Labed, who sports even-more-impressive facial tattoos than he does.”
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago, Fassbender admitted he’d never heard of the game before signing on to Assassin’s Creed. “I’ve played it since (being offered the job) mainly to get an idea of the physicality of the character,” he revealed.
He went on to state that “a lot of the stuff in the game is Parkour, Blades attached to his wrists. It’s about getting in close to the target, close quarters fighting,” which has ended up with Fassbender doing many of his own stunts. He then teased on what to expect from him in terms of action: “I’ve learned how to roly poly, tumble turn. Stuff you can do in everyday life. Like cartwheels. No — just basic fight choreography stuff. I did some horse stuff today. So stuff like that.”
Assassin’s Creed is expected to hit the silver screen on 21th December, 2016. Irons’ character Rikkin even tweeted:

Let us know if you are pleased with the shift to completely new characters instead of established figures in the mythology like Altair, Ezio or Desmond.
