Umbrella Corps is a multiplayer squad-based shooter version of Resident Evil that will be coming to PC this coming May. Publisher Capcom has unveiled screenshots of one of the maps for the game, the Kijuju map from Resident Evil 5.
For those players who skipped Resident Evil 5, the Kijiju map is set in a small village in West Africa where the Plaga bioterror infection wiped out the entire population, turning them into zombies. According to Capcom, the Kijuju map will be the largest map included with the game. ”with plenty of open areas and webbed underground passages to keep things interesting. As always, not only must you battle the other team, but each map includes other enemy threats that won’t make for an easy win.” Just as in the original level, players will have to watch out for the special infected, the Majini.
The Kijiju level of Resident Evil 5 is memorable for the controversy that accused the game of being racist due to its setting back in 2009, with the image of white commandos shooting and killing bug-eyed African hordes. The game earned criticism from mainstream sources who only went by the videos of the game without having played any of the games as a whole. Apparently, Capcom feels comfortable about revisiting that setting 7 years later.
