Ubisoft has released a new trailer for their ambitious online shooter Tom Clancy’s The Division. The “Agent Journey” trailer takes the player on a brief tour of what to expect from the game, showing off each of the gameplay mechanics in a nice, subtle way.
The James A. Farley Post Office seems to be the main safe zone for players to meet and organize parties to head out into the streets of Manhattan on missions. The video seems to indicate it can be upgraded and decorated, and will attract non-player controlled inhabitants.
It also briefly touches on the level progression, noting that after every battle players will ”become stronger” and ”with every challenge met, (they) will gain power”. It also mentions safehouses where ”other agents” have set themselves up. These are areas where players can save their progress. There are also “Dark Zones”, where all of the PvP action will take place.
The game looks extraordinary, and this writer lives a few blocks from the James A. Farley Post Office. Visually, I can identify the various parts of Manhattan that the scenes depict, including the Lower East Side where FDR Drive elevates over the streets and the massive train depot near Penn Station. This is a testament to how much research the team must have done on-site to capture the look of the areas perfectly.
Tom Clancy’s The Division is due to be released on 8th March, 2016 on PC and next-gen consoles.
