Are you a big player of games like Jagged Alliance and XCOM? Let’s talk about Shock Tactics, a single player sci-fi turn-based strategy game that’s in development for the PC by Point Blank Games and will be released this summer.
The developers say it’s inspired by the space western style of the popular sci-fi series Firefly, with squad management and base building. As you can tell by the trailer at the bottom of this article, it’s certainly got an XCOM feel to it.
The Space Pioneers are looking for a new homeworld after a century old struggle with the dictatorship of the Imperial Consortium. You play as a trailblazer for the first wave of free Space Pioneers that are exploring an ancient alien planet, which will hopefully become their new home.
The world map, as shown in the trailer, is full of mysterious landmarks and alien technologies that can be used to research new weapons and tech, allowing you to expand your base and better equip your warriors against attacks from the Imperial Consortium and alien life on the planet you’re trying to inhabit.
“You will acquire up to six team members while venturing the New World. They all have their different strengths and weaknesses. Your job as the leader is to build them into a strike team that works well together and is able to deal with the most ferocious enemies that could spawn from the depth of the universe.” the developers mention on the official website. “As your strike team members gain experience you can specialise them for certain tasks by strengthening different abilities depending on your playstyle and the team strategy you are going for. “
Shock Tactics is set to be released this summer on the PC. If we get access to a playable build we’ll be sure to let you know our thoughts on the game. Check back soon!
