Battleborn went gold this week, meaning that the game is finished and the disks are getting printed. It also means that it’s time to start thinking about post-launch content.
First, the free stuff. New multiplayer modes and maps will be added gratis, as well as the balance changes and community updates you’d expect. The game will also be getting five new playable heroes, bringing the total cast up to 30. While Gearbox insists the new characters are free, it seems they’ll have to be earned in-game before they can be used. The first new hero will be Alani, a warrior from an ocean planet who can use the power of water to attack foes or heal friends.
The paid content will be a series of five add-on packs, each of which includes a new PvE story operation as well as new skins and taunts. They’ll be available for $4.99 each, or as part of a $19.99 season pass. Players will also be able to purchase in-game cosmetic items with real money.
Battleborn will be released on May 3. An open beta is expected sometime before that official release.
