By now, we all know that discovering the universe in No Man’s Sky might not be everything it’s cracked up to be. At the very least it’s not quite as good as the amazing idea we were sold. Even Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, admitted recently that though he enjoys the game, public relations and press did not do the game any favors.
Dan Silver from over at Eurogamer managed to catch up to Yoshida during the recent Tokyo Game Show and was able to get the president’s personal thoughts on where No Man’s Sky suffered. Yoshida confirmed that the PR campaign for No Man’s Sky, and especially Sean Murray</b>, took the wrong routes in promoting the game.
“I understand some of the criticisms especially Sean Murray is getting, because he sounded like he was promising more features in the game from day one,” says Yoshida of the matter. “It wasn’t a great PR strategy, because he didn’t have a PR person helping him, and in the end he is an indie developer. But he says their plan is to continue to develop No Man’s Sky features and such, and I’m looking forward to continuing to play the game.”
Yoshida included that he enjoyed the game, but understands why other people might not given the buzz that surrounded it. Indeed, No Man’s Sky garnered lukewarm reviews from most publications and players, including a very mediocre 5.0 from our own, citing the game as beautiful, yet boring.
That said, if you own the game and don’t feel like waiting on Sean Murray and Hello Games to fix its problems, it’s nothing a few good mods can’t help you with. We’ve gather quite a few good ones already that we feel address many of the game’s most glaring problems, and some that are just plain good fun. You can find our favorite No Man’s Sky mods here.
