Teasing updates for Galactic Civilizations III just last month, Stardock have now delivered the goods. Patch 1.9 is out now.
For this update, and all going forward, Stardock's CEO Brad Wardell has brought his thinking cap out of retirement to code some significant performance boosts for the 4X Space Strategy sim.
Through his work compressing and multi-threading texture loads at the start of the game, everything should fire up noticeably quicker for now on. Part in thanks of this, more planets and stars can now be displayed, making the galaxy as a whole feel a little more robust. And once this helps speed up the trip to the late game, you'll be able to research new, stackable, 'Capstone Techs' during the Age of Ascension period.
We wrote about what we could expect from the game back in February. How much actually happened?
Of course, there's more than that. Besides the optimizations and tech advancements, there's notable improvements to player AI, plenty of balance tweaks and the ability to see stat updates immediately after building on a tile within a specific planet. You'll be able to conjure up smaller fleets, too; just to mix up your expansion efforts going forward.
“This update is just the first step toward lots of enhancements and improvements that I have planned." said Wardell. He's certainly on the right lines. It's interesting to see a company head get right back into the dirty work.
