Indie developer Psyonix has announced in a Steam forum post that their popular “soccer-with-cars” game Rocket League will be adding color-coding for loot as well as different types of crowns for ranked players.
The update comes at the end of the first competitive season of ranked match play for the game. When the season is officially over, players who achieved Brown division level or higher will be getting a crown they can put on their car. The crowns will match the highest level that player achieved. ”For example, if a player was “Silver II” in 1v1 and “Gold I” in 2v2, the delivered Crown would be Gold.” The crowns range from bronze to platinum.
All DLC and drops will be given a colored quality rating as well, which can be seen in the Garage or when it’s a loot drop. Existing items will be given this color scheme:
- Common (Grey) - Stock items. All the items you've come to love!
- Premium (Green) - Items acquired from paid DLC
- Limited (Orange) - Items acquired in seasonal or limited time promotional events, like Halloween.
With the addition of loot drops, Psyonix is introducing a brand new item quality: Uncommon (Light Blue)! ”This new item class will be found, well, uncommonly after completing online-only matches and will feature all-new Toppers and Antennas to deck out your Battle-Car!” states the developer.
According to Psyonix, the drop-rate won’t be a fixed percentage like seasonal items, but rather, the rate increases the more the gamer plays in matches. Grabbing the drop resets the percentage. While there’s only Uncommon loot drops, one has to wonder if there will be Rare drops in the future as well.
The update is scheduled to be launched sometime in February.
