Though its Steam page would still suggest a late 2016 launch is on the cards for Mode 7's Frozen Synapse 2, that simply isn't the case anymore as the title has slipped into a 2017 slot.
The delay hasn't been caused by a lack of progress, though. Far from it, in fact. Instead, the developers have been hard at work giving weapons more of a bang and likely polishing that beat-heavy soundtrack.
The trailer issued to ease the pain yesterday even contains our first look at the turn-based strategy title's continued multiplayer efforts. While some would complain the Frozen Synapse meta lends itself to too many drawn out battles, the new 'One Turn' multiplayer mode does exactly as its title suggests. Matches will be short yet sweet with Mode 7 simply saying "This is cool, trust us."
Going further with the news to dry up those delay tears, 3 new weapons were outlined to help you plan your assault accordingly before release; all of which are visible in the trailer. There's the red-beamed flamethrower, a circular smoke grenade and a proximity-based 'Mine Layer'.
With the release date being further away than once hoped, the delay likely won't surprise many when a game is still attempting to grasp a placeholder "Late 2016" release mere weeks away from the end of said year.
