Halo Wars 2 has received a new video showcasing the upcoming RTS’s multiplayer modes and gameplay. The video shows off the development strategy behind the game as well as showing snippets of gameplay.
The game is set in 2559, 28 years after the events of Halo Wars and shortly after the events of Halo 5: Guardians. The UNSC have encountered a group known as the banished who are a separatist group broken off from the covenant forces. The Banished are led by the Brute warlord Atriox and seek to regain the former ruling power of the old covenant.
The game is being developed by 343 Industries and Creative Assembly which should appease players who were disappointed with the original. While the original was received well, the game did not really innovate in any way and struggled to distinguish itself against other games in the genre other than having the Halo aesthetic.
In the video the developers talk about a multitude of multiplayer modes including domination, deathmatch and strongholds. The developers are seeking to “add layers of depth” to the strategy elements of the game all the while keeping it simple and accessible.
Originally scheduled for a 2016 launch, publishers Microsoft have moved the game release date back until February 2017 in order ensure the product is ready and of the highest quality possible.
