Supergiant Games revealed the indie studio’s third title today, a party-based RPG called Pyre that will be released for the PC and PlayStation 4 in 2017.
Set in a mystical purgatory, Pyre is about a group of exiles whose freedom is at stake, with a gameplay blend that combines decision-making on the world map with fast, action-packed confrontations against other companions of the strange and wondrous land.
Could Supergiant Games’ Pyre end up on our list of The Best RPGs on PC when it releases next year?
There’s a chance to earn freedom with the Rites, a secretive competition through which the worthiest exiles can return home, absolved of their transgressions. It looks like you’ll meet a lot of characters along the way in Pyre, so expect a game with a heavy storyline.
As this is from the same team that brought us Bastion and Transistor, we should see it released simultaneously for the PlayStation 4 and PC.
From the reveal trailer that we’ve embedded below, you’ll see that the visual design from Supergiant’s other games is present here, with lots of colourful characters and backgrounds. Darren Korb is on board to do the story and audio, along with Ashley Barrett.
Are you excited for this one? We’ll bring you more once we’ve been able to get our hands on a playable build.
