Verdun turned some heads when it launched last year for its more grounded, realistic take on team deathmatch shooters. Set in the trenches of World War I, it offered challenging, tactical gameplay amid one of the most horrific settings in modern history.
And now it’s about to get even more horrible! The new Horrors of War expansion adds a new animation system featuring dismemberments, more blood, and more corpses. Fun. There are also five new squads to choose from, including American and Belgian factions, a new co-op game mode, 40 new weapons, and a new night map called Champagne.
While I’ve got to admit to being a little perturbed by “experience the horrors of war” as a marketing line, this seems to be a solid, substantial update for a unique take on war-themed shooters.
The expansion is available for free to all Verdun players now.
