Imagine you’re back in 2008. The Wii was king of the gaming sales charts, and Nintendo was about to get into the digital distribution business with WiiWare. WiiWare would eventually become a complete joke, an utter trash heap of terrible, hastily slapped together games that seems to have paved the way for the worst of the iOS app store and Steam Greenlight. But before that, there was LostWinds.
LostWinds was a wonderful indie puzzle platformer at a time when indie puzzle platformers weren’t a monstrously oversaturated market. You controlled a little dude through both normal platforming mechanics and the power of the wind. You could blow your character around the environment and have effects on the enemies and objects scattered around, all within a lovely, enchanting fairy tale world.
Tied to WiiWare as it was, it seems that LostWinds was nearly forgotten. But it’s now back on Steam! I haven’t played LostWinds probably since 2008, but my memories of it are so fond that I’m still going to recommend you check it out.
Both LostWinds and LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias, are available on Steam for $9.99 each. If you want both, you can buy The Blossom Edition double pack for $14.99.
