A lot of people people own Minecraft. A lot of people also own Windows 10. So when Telltale's spin-off title 'Minecraft: Story Mode' starts dishing out its first episode for free through the Windows 10 store, you could expect the game to land on a lot of people's system. Seemingly unhappy with being gated behind Windows 10, however, Telltale has pushed the promotion a little further out to sea. The Steamy Sea, to be exact. It's on Steam.
So if last month's news of Windows 10 owners being able to grab Jesse's opening adventure for free had you podering the move from Windows 7 or maybe even Linux, don't bother! So long as you have Steam, you can grab Episode 1 for free for a limited time.
Unlike the Windows 10 store, however, should you grab episode 1 and find it as enjoyable as around 5,000 other Steam users explain on the game's store page, you'll be able to grab the entire adventure for half price. With Episode 8 (of an originally planned total of 5) having released only a few months ago, that's a pretty respectable discount for a fairly lengthy title.
The UK's education advisor had a few harsh things to say about using Minecraft as a teaching tool in schools lately
Minecraft: Story Mode shares the tale of Jesse as they push through the familiar Minecraft 'Overworld' and fight their way to the Nether, End and whatever could possible come after that. They'll meet up with a few friends along the way and ride a horse or two. It's an adventure filled with homages to the main game, and certainly something it's rapidly expanding kid audience would appreciate.
Of course, if you're still more interested in picking it up through the Windows 10 store, the offer is still there. But for the sake of convenience and an ever-growing Steam Library, you can expect most to grab it through there.
