Sources close to Kotaku say Microsoft will be bringing Xbox One exclusives to PC as part of the company’s Project Helix strategy.
You may remember the recently cancelled title called Fable Legends. Announced back in 2014 with the Project Helix strategy in mind, Fable Legends wanted both PC and Xbox One players to have the same experience. This would mean both sets of players could play online with each other, use party chat and earn achievements.
Kotaku reported the following: ”Developer sources have told us that Microsoft’s new mandate is to release future games–including the flagship Halo series–on both platforms.” With the recent announcement of Halo 5’s Forge mode making its way to Windows 10 later this year, as well as the confirmation of Halo Wars 2 and Sea of Thieves coming to both Windows and Xbox One, it seems Microsoft are taking a serious approach to this strategy.
Project Helix is trying to link up the Xbox and Windows platforms, which would make sense considering the Xbox One is actually running a version of Windows as its main operating system. The Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications are the beginning of the link up. If you’ve played a UWP game before, you’ll notice that the experience is similar to playing on an Xbox One. If Microsoft are genuinely considering bringing Halo to Windows, we expect every Xbox One exclusive to make its way on to PC.
We expect Microsoft to have more information on Project Helix at E3. Make sure to stay tuned to GameWatcher as we will be covering E3 in depth.
