No Man’s Sky has been hotly anticipated ever since its appearance a a Sony stage, but it’s always been dogged by a question. “What do you actually do in the game?” Sure, we know there’s a procedurally generated galaxy to explore, but are there, like, guns? Well, thankfully, a series of trailers recently went showing off each of the title’s core gameplay elements.
The Explore trailer shows off the basic features we’ve been seeing from the beginning. 18 quintillion planets to explore–I don’t even know how many zeroes that is!–and an ultimate goal of making it to the center of the galaxy. The Fight trailer confirms guns, space battles, and dogfighting, as well as ground-based combat against alien creatures and robotic police.
No Man’s Sky has been on the horizon so long, it’ll be a strange feeling when it’s no longer on our list of upcoming PC games!
The universe’s economy is shown in the Trade video, and after you gather resources from the various planets you encounter you’ll be able to build new equipment and trade exotic gear around the galaxy. Finally, the Survive trailer shows the hostile environments you’ll find yourself in, with poison air, radioactive land, and occasionally roasting heat. That’s to say nothing of the wildlife.
No Man’s Sky is set to release August 9 on PS4, though the PC version got a slight delay recently to August 12. A three day wait won’t stop ravenous fans from frenzied hype, I’m sure.
