Offworld Trading Company DLC The Patron and The Patriot releases today. The new $5 DLC focuses on enhancing the single-player campaign of the game. The campaign in the original game worked like a competitive tournament and over time the weakest competitor would be taken out, the new DLC looks to build upon the original foundation and offer more depth than before.
Colonies have been reworked in the new content by adding 17 new colony classes that allow players to specialize in local markets depending on supply and demand. Players will now have to anticipate and deal with local markets in a much more meaningful way as the developers explain “many colonies have customized module types, which consume different resources than the default types (driving up prices on a different set of commodities) and even in some cases producing resources (which actually drives prices down on those commodities).”
The DLC also offers players the ability to choose their own campaign length. Shorter campaigns mean less perk progression so will have increased starting capital. Longer campaigns will have less starting cash and more rival companies in the early game making the longer campaign likely to be the bigger challenge for players.
The Patron and The Patriot is looking to increase the game’s depth and immersion by adding new characters, a story driven campaign and new game modes. The new game modes are Colony Build and Wholesale Orders which will give players different goals and objectives throughout the game. Developer Stardock has packed in a fair amount of content into the $5 bundle and it may just be worth fans time and money.
