It’s been quite some time since we heard anything about the Terraria follow-up, Otherworld. Last December, the developers offered a quick glimpse of a new biome, but they’ve been silent in the seven months since. No longer! The game is still in development, but is undergoing some major changes and rebuilding before it’s ready to go.
Otherworld is set to be a more adventuresome, structured take on the sandbox world of Terraria. Set in an alternate dimension, it has you doing battle with a creeping form of supernatural corruption, trying to return the natural world to its pristine splendor. The team felt that the game needed a good bit of rebuilding in order to match their vision.
Of course, there are already tons of great independent games out there. We just happen to have a list of the best indie games on PC!
“To keep it short and simple,” says the official update, ”at the beginning of this year, we undertook a full in-depth review of the project versus our standards, expectations, and vision for the game. It was pretty clear to us at the time that Otherworld needed quite a bit of work - and even a good bit of rework - in a number of areas in order to hit that mark.”
The elements being changed include aesthetic changes to the spread of corruption, more diverse biomes, big changes to the weapon leveling system, tweaks to armor and gear, more story, and an AI overhaul. We don’t know when to expect Terraria: Otherworld’s release, but if it’s half as excellent as the original game, it will be well worth the wait.
