Well, that didn’t take long. Long War Studios was given modding tools for the upcoming tactical strategy game XCOM 2 by Firaxis, and the team already has three mods ready for the game’s launch.
The three mods include the addition of submachine guns - a staple of the original Long War mod - a new set of leadership perks, and a new enemy, the Muton Centurion (as seen above). When discussing the SMGs, lead designer John Lumpkin stated, ”They don’t don’t do as much damage and they don’t have as much ammunition as an assault rifle, but a soldier that carries them is faster and also harder to detect.”
Don’t expect something on the scale of the original Long War mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown anytime soon, of course.”We’ll see. We are certainly open and exploring the possibility of turning more content,” noted Lumpkin. If the studio is serious about developing Terra Invicta, a grand strategy game involving an alien invasion similar to XCOM, then they won’t be dividing their attention too much.
Regardless, it’ll be nice to have strong mods available day one for XCOM 2, which will be next week on the 5th February. GameWatcher will have a review at the ready when it launches, so keep your eyes out for it.
