As PC gamers we're constantly living our gaming lives on the edge. Not necessarily because we're getting more of a technological thrill from our complicated rigs, but usually because we're worrying over whether a given game will make use of our needlessly expensive toys.
So, when a recent Middle-Earth: Shadow of War gameplay stream gave us a very brief look at the games switchable graphics settings, it was time for PC enthusiasts to either drool from their mouths or begin grinding their teeth.
Thankfully, for those running those incredibly expensive Titan X cards, you're fine. Your toasty £500 Titan X should pull this one off at a relatively consistent 60fps even in 4K. Yes, finally, those 4K dreams are becoming a reality. Likely capped through V-Sync, however, there's every chance the Titan X is capable of hitting higher rates - through likely not enough to warrant a 144Hz panel at that kind of resolution.
Despite Only Being Announced 3 Months Ago, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Has Been Delayed
The quick-fire snapshot leaves a lot of questions still up in the air, but it gives us a look into what's turned up and down in the settings. Likely not completely 'maxed out' judging from the mention of 'custom' on the general setting, Mesh, Shadow and Texture qualities are all sat at Ultra while Lighting is at 'High'. Though we have seen some settings cap out at different points in the past, there's no saying that 'High' Lighting is or is not its highest point. You even have Motion Blur and TAA turned on there.
Still, it's reassuring to note that some of the more important bells and whistles can be capped out with a recent top-end card at a resolution that goes far beyond the 1080p target of the last decade. That 2 month delay couldn't have hurt. Click to around 02:37 to see the goods.
