The Division update 1.8 hits today, and it brings yet another horde mode to the open-world shooter.
Unlike past updates, this one has a PvE option, though the obligatory PvP mode is also included.
The “Resistance” Update, as it's called, launches simultaneously on all platforms and expands the map with a new area accessible to all players: the West Side Pier, where a huge aircraft carrier sits. The area had actually been in-game since launch (I explored it on the first week through the use of glitches in the game world), but it has finally been officially included.
Aside from open world activities, the West Side Pier will house the following two new game modes:
- Resistance: PvE mode, all criminal factions are teaming up for the first time to fight against Division agents. Players can set up defenses and alter the battlefield a little, but this is yet another horde mode (like every single end-game activity added so far) with no objective aside "survive as long as you can.
- Skirmish: PvP mode, classical deathmatch where two teams of four players compete against each other to get the highest number of kills before the time expires.
Aside from the shamefully unispired modes, the “Resistance” 1.8 Update will also include a new social hub, improvements to the Underground DLC, a revamp of the rogue mechanics, and an optimisation of the gear system to improve the stats of current equipment.
According to Massive, the rogue changes will include a togglable Rogue feature as over 75% of Dark Zone deaths are PvP related. Why it took them a year to realise what everyone been telling them since launch is unknown.
Tom Clancy’s The Division 1.8 “Resistance” update is out today, and the game is hosting a free weekend from December 7th - 10th. Existing players have access to a free DLC Week from today, December 5th, till the 10th, where all three expansions will be playable for a limited time. Free weekend players will of course also benefit from the free DLC.
