Blending strategy titles with collectible card-games seems to be all the rage lately. Quickly becoming a staple through mobile gaming and their touch-screen interfaces, it's become a system adopted into other high profile games like SMITE and Halo Wars in recent years. Shardbound is another stab at this - and it arrives onto Steam later today.
By around 4-5PM GMT today, Shardbound will become available through Steam - but not as a full release. Not yet, anyway. In an effort to ensure everything is running smoothly, Shardbound will present itself as an Early Access title from the start.
Though the available Steam description, Spiritwalk Games explains Shardbound as "... a Tactical CCG that combines board-based tactical gameplay with the depth of content found in collectible card games. As a Ranger, you'll form a Noble House with your friends and battle other players to claim the riches of an ancient world."
Steam's Next Overhaul Plans To Bury 'Fake Games' Under 'A Sea Of Algorithms'
Launching onto Kickstarter back in mid-February, Spiritwalk Games looked to amass $50,000 from the potential playing public with the initial goal being reached in its first day. Eventually, the group published stretch goals hoping for $100,000 to promise a Tournament Spectator mode and $125,000 to add two currently announced characters into their own PvE story. Ending their campaign with $150,000 in the bank, it's unclear whether the additional revenue would fund even more hopes and dreams for the initial release.
Since closing the Kickstarter campaign, backers have had access to a continuously updated build of the game with community tournaments and around 35 patches being issued since then. Today, on April 6, Spiritwalk Games will bring Shardbound to the masses as a Free to Play title through Steam. Check it out here.
