Despite a rolling launch that saw those with a physical copy able to play Destiny 2 a whole day earlier than the rest of us, the opening of the floodgates at midnight was still enough to cause problems.
Just as you'd expect from any big-name online game, the servers began to buckle under the pressure of millions attempting to log in at once. If you were hoping to blasting up the Red Legion into the early hours of the morning, your 'sick day' was bound to get off on the wrong foot.
Hopeful Destiny 2 players were quickly reporting server congestion issues in droves as soon as digital copies became available to play. We ample time to pre-load the game in the days leading into release, the moment the world could play, they were ready to do so. Sadly, servers are rarely equipped to tackle the strain.
Destiny 2 Campaign Length Clocks In At Around 12 Hours
Those met with the dreadfully blunt 'Destiny 2 is at capacity' message likely saw it coming from miles away. What they didn't anticipate, however, was the absence of a queue number or estimated time. Rather than be given a slot with a clear idea of how long the queue time would be, they were all met with the same message. It meant well, but it didn't help.
Thankfully, it didn't seem so bad for the majority of those hoping to squeeze in an hour before bed or stay up late into the night. Taking to Reddit to discuss the expected issues, most reported being baited by the EULA agreement page before landing in the queue. Within 30 minutes, however, most were reported to have been let into the game. That's an impromptu episode of Mork & Mindy! Not a bad trade.
