Tease after tease seemingly saw us no closer to a known release date for Team17's space-builder Aven Colony. Today, that changes. July 25 is when we'll finally touch down.
Landing on its trio of platforms on the same day, Aven Colony is skipping out on a boxed copy for the PC platform - but pre-order Biomes are still a-go.
Handled by Mothership Entertainment over in Texas, Aven Colony is Team17's take on the city building sim. While Tropico, Sim City and Cities: Skylines have fought over the stretches of Earth in the past, Aven Colony takes us into the stars and onto Aven Prime for some otherworldly micro-management.
Team17 Aren't The Only Ones Working On A Space City-Sim - But It's The One We'll See Soonest
Thankfully, Aven Prime isn't the barren, gas-infested wasteland we usually hear NASA spouting scientific readings about. Being light-years from Earth means Aven Prime is far more like our little green planet that expected. Deserts, wetlands and the occasional tundra little this new world - and you can bet it's not the safest place in the universe. Lightnings storms may seem fairly common back home, but toxic gas clouds drifting through town? That's new. Acid-spewing sandworms? They're new too. And the spores around Aven Prime are far more deadly than your simple fungi.
A single-player campaign might be the biggest focus here, but both that and a 'freeplay' mode opens up a slew of customization options for players to mess around with. Trigger events, spawn additional resources or... just cause more deadly lightning strikes. That's the joy of a city-builder. The 'Cerulean Valley' will be unlocked for those who pre-order the title.
