Despite still being relatively new, well-received metroidvania 'Hollow Knight' is currently on sale just about everywhere you can find it. The reason? It just gained the first of 3 free DLC packs; and the two-man team decided to answer fan-submitted questions over on Reddit to celebrate.
Before calling it quits for the day as they headed back to work on 'content pack 2' William and Ari of Team Cherry answered a bunch of questions relating to character origins, future updates and the reasoning behind some of their design choices.
With the first DLC - now known as Hidden Dreams - out for the public to play through, Team Cherry were asked a lot about what Update 2 would bring. And while they weren't too willing to dish out specifics just yet, they did clarify that the expansion would feature Hornet as the playable character, exploring new areas in a mixture of both new and old zones - but they won't say whether we're looking at a sequel story or a prequel to what's already been seen. All we know for now is that this update is set to be ever so slightly bigger than the last, with the third following a similar rule.

On the topic of lore and design choices, Team Cherry noted how they weren't really phased by the success of similar games like Shantae and Ori & the Blind Forest during development, instead focusing on Japanese classics like Zelda II and Faxanadu. They're also toying with the idea of a Boss Rush mode, but need to find a creative way of implementing it - citing the want to handle an upgraded Mantis Lords fight as a driving force. They also teased potential expanded storylines for characters like Iselda and, potentially, Mr Mushroom. Expect more NPC 'dream' fights going forward, though they're teasing these to be rather different to those seen in the base game.
They dynamic duo made a good effort of replying to the barrage of questions, and there's likely still a lot of dicect out of their responses. If you're up for a deep dive, head over to the AMA on Reddit. Want the game before the sale ends? You better be quick.
