With Torment: Tides of Numenera ready to leave the starting position, it's only natural for InExile to start turning their attention to the marketing efforts of The Bard's Tale IV. There's a new battle trailer to watch down below.
After launching a Kickstarter to gain additional funding for the title back in June 2015, this 6-minute long combat trailer has been a long time coming.
Focusing on some light exploration across its general fantasy setting, we see the first-person 3D perspective take us from a lush forest to a dark, moody and relatively quite cave. Along the way, our allies pop-in through an emerging UI window to comment on the concessional happenings. After venturing through the caves and fixing a flight of stairs with nothing but the power of music, we sneak by a walking eyeball before having another summon reinforcements against us by way of the game's wise-cracking imps.
After Reaching $1,000,000 During The Kickstarter Campaign, InExile Released The First In-Engine Teaser
At that point, we're introduced to the tile-based combat system. Starting with the enemy turn, we see how certain spells and attacks reach squares within a select vicinty around the character in question, leading us to have to think strategically when it comes to moving our 2D characters across the 3D board. Enemies are fully rendered, whereas our allies stay within the confines of the particularly out of place flat UI element as attacks and spells are handed with fancy particle effects.
Chiming in through the video comments, Brian Fargo - founder of InExile Games states: "We are not wild about the way characters pop when they talk so remember this is WIP," so expect some changes. Commenters note how the character UI is both too large and aesthetically out of place, so let's hope for alterations there, too. If we're going off the Kickstarer estimate, The Bards Tale IV should launch this October.
