There's no shortage of mainstream and classic literature being turned into engaging video games as of late. Of course, we're seeing it form around comics and graphic novels more, but Daedalic Entertainment is going for a more niché approach by handling Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth.
With there currently being little known about the title other than its source material and a vague trailer, TJ Denzer took it into his own hands to dig under the surface - by asking Daedalic themselves.
Under the request, Co-Writer and Creative Lead Matt Kempke took the reins during the interview to dish out the all important answers - for which you can read through here. One vital piece of information, however, doesn't add any additional context to the game, but describes its overall scope. Pillars of the Earth is split into 3 different instalments with each featuring eight chapters. Sure, that means you're not getting the whole story from the get-go. The reason? "...so players could get in and play along as early as possible." According to Kempke "Each of the three parts are each as big as the first Deponia game, if not bigger."

"This is not something that’s going to be so easy for me to say again: This is, by far, Daedalic’s biggest game... from a production value standpoint, speaking to art, animations, and music, our version of Pillars of the Earth is easily about three times as rich as any classic Daedalic game".
Rather that being heavy on the puzzles like Daedelic's classic catalogue, Pillars of the Earth cuts these down in favor of making the game more accessible to a wider audience. Through that decision, there may be less overall playtime, but it's still an incredibly ambitious title for the studio. For now, it's pencilled in for release this August.
