Earlier today publisher Kalypso released a video teasing a mysterious untitled game that they'll be revealing at Gamescom. Despite the lack of a title the game is clearly a sequel to Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, the hack-n-slash Diablo-style action RPG, which would make it the third title in the Heretic Kingdoms series.
Numerous things give it away. The quote in the video description is from Carissa Cantrecht, a character from Shadows. The developer is Games Farm who worked on the series. The voice actor is Tom Baker, reprising his role of narrator in the series. Oh, and Tom says "Heretic Kingdoms" which is the biggest giveaway of all. So yes, a new Heretic Kingdoms game, possibly titled "Awakening", will be revealed at Gamescom.

Wait, did we just say "Tom Baker"? THE Tom Baker? Fourth, longest-running and inarguably best Doctor Who? Yes, the veteran actor (who has also more recently acted in the likes of Little Britain and Star Wars: Rebels) narrated Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms, and since this is a separate product unless Kalypso just wanted to pay him for just this tiny teaser video we think it's safe to assume Tom Baker will be in the new game too. Also, no offence to Games Farm, but his involvement with Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms raised the profile of that game a significant degree.
The Heretic Kingdoms games are fantasy hack-n-slash action RPGs highly influenced by Diablo, set in a world where god is dead. The first game, Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, was released in 2005, with the sequel Shadows releasing a good nine years later in 2014.
Shadows got and still gets generally good reviews, but is described occasionally in Steam comments as "a buggy piece of crap" even several years later, with several players complaining that they can't finish the game because it's so unpolished. Hopefully the sequel won't be as bad.
The trailer, which you can see below, shows off the cool looking engine by panning through some ancient catacombs as Tom Baker's voice talks about being entombed there alive, before moving on to some weird green portals. We can't say if the voiceover is taken from Shadows or is brand new, but one thing's for sure: it's a sequel to Heretic Kingdoms.
