Having trouble updating Mass Effect: Andromeda to the latest update? Hold off complaining on forums or Twitter, because there's a good chance you'll get called out for piracy. Yar!
Bioware's much anticipated sci-fi sequel released in funny old state. Not exactly broken or unplayable, but with a slew of sloppy animations and seemingly unfinished model details to cause a multitude of creepy or cringe-worthy encounters with its varied cast.
Weeks after launch, however, a new patch has been introduced that aims to fix some of the more visible problems plaguing the game. Like a character dubbed 'tired face' getting a less tired looking face. It all makes sense. But for those who've already pirated the game thanks to it shipping with an outdated and crackable version of the 'uncrackable' Denuvo anti-tamper tech, good luck managing the same with this patch.
The reason? Well, Bioware seem to have ironed out that mistake just as quickly as the various bugs and facial issues the game launched with. Likely not happy to have even shipped with a DRM protocol that was essentially meaningless at the time, they've snuck the latest and greatest Denuvo tech into the patch - meaning there's no way in for those who found it so easy last time.
It's a shame Bioware didn't bake in any of their own 'We got you' techniques employed in some other games, though. It's always funny to see the pirate public taking to Twitter to ask their Customer Support teams about a bug they're running into only to learn - in a public space - that's it's only visible on a pirated copy. Alas, Denuvo works too. Eventually. But it's not quite as fun.
