If you've come into Destiny 2 after hundreds of hours in the original Destiny, you're probably well aware of how Bungie hides certain Exotic weapons throughout mysterious quest chains and puzzling in-game events. Good news - they're at it again.
Although us PC players are still without the game at all for the next month and a half, those of you who're looking to double-dip (or not) may have come across a certain in-game mob drop that suddenly began a quest called 'On the Comms'. MMOs have used this method for decades, usually leading players to nothing but a little extra side-story context, meaning many players just shrug them off and leave them incomplete. In the case of Destiny, however, there's a fair chance similar mission pick-ups will lead to a powerful Exotic weapon.
For those without it, reports speculate the quest starter isn't likely to drop until you've hit level 20 and/or completed the main story. Then, although likely just a completely random drop, most have reported the item to drop during the European Dead Zone (EDZ) public event. If you need the event timelines, check them out over here.

Once you've found the item, it'll bury itself in your Power Weapons inventory marked as the 'On the Comms' quest. Asking you to aquire 5 Red Legion Communications, this is simply a task of grinding out kills on Cabal until all 5 drop. Either stick to farming the EDZ public event if you're still there, or just hit up a few Strike missions. Basically, just play the game some more until you have all 5.
Then, you're right with the rest of us (or... them). The next step simply asks that you 'Await the World Eater', and nobody really knows what that means just yet. Whether it's possible to progress further than that right now, or not, is anyone's guess, but the general idea seems to be that it's related to the upcoming Leviathan raid - so let's hope you're in the fighting mood. Of course, if anyone figures where to go from here, we'll update this post with all the steps required to complete the On the Comms quest. Though having a 'World Eater' in raid called 'Leviathan' seems to check out.
