Confirming rumors that it isn't just Dontnod working on the Life is Strange franchise at this point, Square Enix chose Microsoft's E3 presentation to reveal Life is Strange: Before the Storm.
Handled by Deck Nine Games - who were leaked as the new developer after a name change - Life is Strange: Before the Storm is set to be a prequel telling the story of Chloe Price and Rachel Amber three years before Maxine Caulfield returned to Arcadia Bay.
Life is Strange: Before the Storm slots itself into a nice place. For those who haven't played the original Life is Strange (this game's chronological successor), 'Before the Storm' could soon be suggested as the first game a new player should pick up as most of Life is Strange revolves around the events of Chloe and Rachel's relationship that's set to be explored in greater detail here.
Feeling Another Play-Through Now? Why Not Turn On The Developer Commentary?
Rather than play out across 5 periodically released 'episodes', Deck Nine Games' version will start and end with only 3. While many would like to imagine this means less of a break before each new episode, there's every chance the gap could be the same while the content of each is increased. Likewise, it could just be a shorter story through-and-through potentially leading upto the release (or official announcement) of Life is Strange 2.
“Life is Strange: Before the Storm is a key release for Square Enix this year and is being created as a direct response to fans asking to return to Arcadia Bay so they can revisit the characters they fell in love with,” said Lee Singleton in a press release following the announcement. It just goes to show how fan's pleas (and money) can spur a publisher into giving them what they want.
