Turn-based sci-fi space strategy RPG Ancient Frontier is coming soon on September 21, and to prepare for the release developer Fair Weather Studios are showing off a new Launch Trailer for the game. You can watch it here or check it out below.

Release date and new video revealed for the next Stellaris expansion
The game features two fully-voiced story campaigns based around thinking tactically, in a lovely mix of RPG and strategy gameplay, as you face raiders, opposing armies, and alien invaders. It's a semi-sequel to Fair Weather Studios' earlier title Bladestar, although that was a space shooter rather than a tactical RPG, so it's a story continuation instead of a gameplay one.
Mars is the centre of the human Federation, whereas the Alliance is a group of colonies that have banded together, although there are other factions that seek to plunge the Frontier into war. It's a bit like excellent sci-fi show The Expanse. Both main factions will be playable over two campaigns, so you can find out both sides of the story.
Ships are upgradeable RPG-style, although once a ship is destroyed its gone forever. Yep, it's XCOM-style with heartbreaking unit permadeath. New technologies can be researched, there are over 35 types of ship to command, and resources need to be scavenged. It all sounds quite engaging.
What's even more impressive is that Fair Weather are only a two-man development house, both of whom have been in the industry for 17 years. They certainly don't want Ancient Frontier to be the last game set in the Bladestar universe and they're seeking to expand it, perhaps into other genres. They're quite ambitious certainly, and that has to be applauded.
Ancient Frontier is out September 21.
