If you're looking for a sci-fi 'souls' game, The Surge has your back. Finally released back in May, it seems Deck13 are hoping to bring in some fresh meat by introducing a demo. You don't see many of those these days.
It's good news for those who've never tried a 'souls' game before and has a direct interest in dying repeatedly or breezing through the challenge and taking to Twitter to call out the rest of us scrubs.
Can you survive The Surge's demo?

There's no specific date just yet, but Deck13's Twitter account announced plans for the demo to go live 'next week'. They ask only one thing - "Can you survive?". Given enough attempts, there's really no reason why anyone couldn't 'survive'; but is it really surviving when you've died two-dozen times? We'll let you be the judge of that.
The Demo Is Also A Good Way To Judge Whether Chris' 6.5 Score Was Just
For the uninitiated, The Surge is Deck13's take on the brutally precise combat of the FromSoftware's Dark Souls games that generally defined its own genre. As a worker of a shady environmentalist corporation, you're thrust into the task of shutting the place down after its creations go rogue and corrupt the rest of the work force. Fighting for your life against mechanical constructs and augmented colleagues, you're able to target specific limbs to enact your revenge and use the detached weapons against whatever else attempts to stop you.
Keep an eye out for the demo landing on Steam next week. If you've ever wanted to try a game of its kind, this is the perfect chance to do so.
