The Banner Saga 3 is on the horizon. After another successful Kickstarter campaign for Stoic, the ball is well and truly moving toward the conclusion of the trilogy. But what's next for the company?
It may seem hasty to be thinking of a future beyond The Banner Saga 3 when it isn't even due to release until the end of next year, but seeing as the company was set up with that trilogy in mind, we have to know they won't just disappear once it's done.
So that's why TJ Denzer took to interviewing John Watson, Stoic's co-founder and technical director. In the lengthy conversation, the two spoke Banner Saga for a good long while before delving into the future of the company. Incidentally, this likely won't be the end of The Banner Saga in name, but it won't be their next project. Just expect "something in a competitive, tactical combat capacity", first.

For those holding tight onto The Banner Saga legacy, John said "There’s a lot of world building in this trilogy and we left a lot of the history and certain events offscreen. The world is rich enough that we can take on things that are happening parallel to this trilogy, before, or even after the events players know. That said, we’d probably let the series rest for a bit and let the audience get hungry for the next thing."
The Banner Saga will return - just not straight away. They're still interested in the motion comic promised as a stretch goal; even though they didn't reach the asked amount for that one. As for his planned new IP, "We certainly haven’t sat down and drafted any ideas, but it’s most certainly something we’re all interested in and something we’d probably try to pursue given the opportunity"
The Banner Saga 3 is set to launch December, 2018. Late backers are welcome, with the minimum pledge for a copy being around $20.
