There's been plenty of modern-day releases when it comes to the 4X space-strategy genre. But what if you just want to take a time out and go back to where it all began? THQ Nodric are all for the idea, so they're bringing back Imperium Galatica. Today.
Available on Steam, GOG and the usual suspects at 6PM GMT today - that's in just 2 hours time - both Imperium Galactic I and II will begin their grand return to form.
Clearly waiting for the right time to spring their nostalgia trap, THQ Nordic have lived up to their promise to bring back Imperium Galactica after they bought out the franchise early last year. Not content with a simple port for newer systems, they've pulled out a few stops to ensure the legacy of the titles aren't hindered by their re-introduction to a newer audience.

While not a whole lot could be done with the original other than running it through a Dosbox emulator stable on Windows 7, 8 and 10, Imperium Galactica 2 was able to receive a broader range of changes. Ensured to work on Windows 7, 8, 10, MacOS and Lunix, most of its UI artwork has been reworked to support the increased rendering resolutions added through the tweaked engine. Shadows and lighting have seen similar upgrades and multiplayer is back with a real server browser.
We can't really showcase the game in its reworked glory. Thanks to THQ Nordic playing with the element of surprise, we don't have any screenshots to share of the updated UI elements. Instead, have a look at how it looked back then - but running on an Android tablet.
