Wasting no time following the release of the beautifully stylised Tokyo 42, Mode 7 Games have already announced their next publishing effort - The Colonists; a strategy sim handled by sole creator Richard Wallis.
Taking ques from The Settlers and Anno franchises, the soft visuals of The Colonists lends to its shockingly small work force.
Taking the wheel as a robot, your're tasked with introducing your old-world inhabitants to a newly discovered planet. As your people begin building their new homes, you're carving out transportation routes, setting up vital living systems and likely duking it out with the planet's indigenous people. Like any good city-builder of its kind, resource management is key - and if you're even remotely interested in the premise here, you likely already have some experience in that regard.

And while the idea of The Colonists may sound like a simple single-player affair, it'll launch with both competitive multiplayer and co-op modes alongside a campaign and free-play option for those who'd rather carry their people through the ages without feeling that the end is near. Explore the world, research your findings and manage your new home. Then decide whether you want to side with the world's inhabitants or just claim squatter's rights and cut them down. It's your call.
Developed by a single member of the Bristol Games Hub, The Colonists will release into Early Access next month. Read more here.
