Imagine you're an axe-wielding warrior sailing the high seas - do you focus on testing your strength against the might of the world, or do you just want to pillage every settlement you come across? What about both? Iron Tides more or less wants you do to both.
Set to release before the end of the month, Iron Tides has come a long way since being chosen as a finalist in the SxSW game pitch competition. Putting you in the shoes of a viking fleet, it's a strategy rogue-like involving everyone's favourite thing - loot!
Throughout its 10 hour campaign, you're expected to make any number of high-chance choices that could drastically turn the tide of your conquest. Would you bribe a local garrison into giving you a free pass, or simply take what you firmly believe to be yours? If they can't best you in combat, what right do they have to hold you back? While your crew simply wants a good meal tonight, you'd rather use that time to devise and execute a plan that'll get you much more than a basket of bread.

Iron Tide takes you across the high seas as you discover ancient ruins, derelict islands and troubled adventurers, and you'll need to know when - and how - to choose your battles. Go headlong into the fray, you might very well end up in a turn-based brawl that'll wipe out half your men. And once they're down, they're down for good. Make it back home to Norhaven with boat full of the wares, though, and you'll be able to recruit a fine new army - assuming their randomly generated skills and upgrade routes play into your overall strategy.
Iron Tides will release into Early Access sometime in the next few days, with a sharp discount compared to its planned final release cost. Though the team expects to release the completed game later this year, fan feedback could push it into the new year.
