What happens with a certain farming sim developed by one man goes on to make millions? For Rebecca Cordingley it meant the idea of making it big without a boss wasn't impossible. It meant she could concoct Ooblets.
It's probably best not to dwell on the title. Just let it sit there and look adorable without trying to peer into its deeper meaning. It probably doesn't have one; but it does tread awfully close to the name of a butcher's shop a few streets down.
Having been recently picked up by Double Fine just as sole developer Rebecca Cordingley was starting to have doubts in her ability to go it alone, Ooblets got a new trailer alongside the announcement that she was no longer afraid of the whole thing falling through.
Want Some Co-Op Stardew Valley Sooner? There's Now a Mod For That
On track for a release sometime next year, the aforementioned trailer makes good on the promise that Ooblets is so be a sort of Stardew Valley, Pokémon and Animal Crossing love letter. Creatures are grown from crops, follow you around like you're some kind of legendary bard while the human characters all flail their arms in quirky movements. There seems to be a bit of Katamari obscurity mixed in with the artstyle, too.
Over all, it's already looking like a joy to behold. You can learn more about it through its dedicated website now with Rebecca herself contributing some fascinating insight into the whole development process.
