Creative Assembly are hiring for a new project described as "the biggest multiformat project Creative Assembly has ever undertaken", a brand new IP coming from the same team that created Alien Isolation and also worked on Halo Wars 2.
Our Review of Total War: Warhammer II!
Here's where Total War: Warhammer 3 will be set and what races we can expect!
The three positions can be viewed on Creative Assembly's Careers page, which are for a Senior Meta Game Designer, Lead Systems Designer and a Technical Artist for a "new undisclosed IP".
The Meta Game Designer position describes someone who will be responsible for "economy, progression and retention methods, leaderboards, challenges, world building and events", suggesting strongly that the new IP will be an online game of some sort, with a service-based economy similar to Destiny. There may be a single-player side, but this position doesn't mention anything about it.
The Lead Systems Designer position seems to back the idea that the game will be Destiny-style service-based multiplayer, saying that the designer "will be responsible for defining the range and depth of the core game experience, balancing the systems, looking at skill ceilings, complexity, challenge and player progression", while also being in charge of "weapons, movement, abilities, gadgets, health and other underlying gameplay systems". We feel confident this new IP will an online multiplayer action game of some kind, perhaps similar to Destiny, or Ubisoft's The Division or even possibly For Honor.
PCGamesN had an insider comment that this new IP will be "the biggest multiformat project Creative Assembly has ever undertaken". It certainly sounds very different from any game Creative Assembly have ever developed - much like how Alien Isolation was very different from the studio's titles before or since.
Alien Isolation was one of the best games of 2014, but sadly it didn't do well enough to get a sequel. Shame. Creative Assembly are otherwise busy with the Total War series, in the form of Total War: Warhammer 2, Thrones of Britannia: A Total War Saga, and An Empire Divided expansion for Rome II.
